To develop an in depth understanding of the main features of livestock production systems and their management.

To build knowledge and understanding of nutrition and reproduction management with common livestock.

To outline how health and welfare can be implemented into livestock production systems.

Give an overview of the economics and marketing options for livestock enterprises.

Content Summary

This module develops the learner’s understanding of livestock production systems and their management. It identifies the key features that are crucial to both physical and financial performance. Nutrition and reproduction management are recognised as underpinning the production process. The importance of ensuring that enterprises are market orientated, assurance scheme aware and animal welfare compliant is also reviewed. The crucial role of grassland management is also recognised and discussed.
