Module Aims

To introduce the broad theoretical approaches to studying development in childhood and adolescence

To provide an overview of development in specific domains (e.g. language, social development, emotional development)

Content Summary

The module will consider the major issues and principles of child development, including the nature/nurture issue; Does development proceed in a continuous or discontinuous manner? The major theoretical approaches to development, including psychodynamic, behaviourist, cognitive, ethological and bioecological approaches. Additionally the module will include an overview of the different domains of development including physical growth and brain development, cognitive and perceptual development, social development, emotional development, moral development and the development of language and communication.

Asynchronous Assessment Portfolio 1 This Portfolio / Patchwork Text Assessment is a student-led assessment, which consists of 5 weeks of predominantly interactive activities and short writings that the students complete mostly via BB WIKIs on a weekly basis. Formative feedback is provided by the tutor on at least one occasion. Students then submit the individual tasks that are 'stitched together', along with a personal reflection at the end of the 5 week continuous learning period (i.e. in week 6). 0 3450 40 No 40
