Module Aims

To engender an innovative and creative approach to the design process for graphic communication artefacts.

To develop students understanding and skills in producing graphic communication design work for production.

To extend students’ abilities in discussing issues effecting the development and management of design projects.

To develop student’s knowledge of alternative methods and media in choosing final outcomes for design projects.

To encourage sustainability and diversity in all aspects of the management and creativity of a given project.

Content Summary

Management of the Design Processes:

Agreeing the brief. Defining the problem. Project outcome and intended format. Restrictions, agreeing budgets and costing estimates.

Project Management and Workflow Structures:

Planning using traditional techniques. Setting of deadlines and deliverables. Monitoring of progress and efficiency of workflow methodology.

Sub-Contracting of Elements:

Working with photographers, printers, illustrators.

Copyright legislation and design protection within the industry.

Creative use of Chosen Media:

Investigate new tools, techniques and methods.

Management of Final Production with Outside Agencies:

Printers, publishers, IT specialists.

Publication:

Approaching clients/publishers. Self-promotion.
