Content Summary

This module provides students with an opportunity to reflect upon their personal and professional achievements development during their undergraduate studies and previous experiences.

Students will be expected to identify a range of career opportunities available to them within the games industry, evaluating their own strengths in relation to the industrial expectations of those roles. Where gaps are identified students will critically appraise their suitability for those roles and plan for further professional development where required.

During the module students should attend relevant careers activities (such as internal and external careers events), seek advice on employment or work placement opportunities, and where relevant make use of the universities support for business start-ups.

Module outcomes typically take the form of a mock job interview, online portfolio, CV and presence within any relevant social media platforms. These will identify a students’ personal strengths and provide employers with evidence of those abilities.

A series of lectures and workshops will help develop a personal strategy towards finding employment within their chosen field. With emphasis placed strongly on one’s ability to become a self-directed professional practitioner. Lectures may be programme-based or provided as part of wider institutional career development schemes.

Students are encouraged to investigate wider knowledge of the opportunities that exist within the games industry, together with a more advanced understanding of their relationship to gaming markets and audiences. This is of particular relevance to students who are considering releasing their own games or starting up a games studio.
