Module Aims
Develop an understanding of working with new technologies alongside traditional hand processes to produce surface patterns that can be applied to a variety of products and or materials.
To enable the student to investigate the application of surface pattern illustration to products.
Encourage the use of appropriate materials and techniques to the development of effective illustration for surface pattern.
Content Summary
Students will learn how to make production ready designs in response to a specified design challenge.
Students will apply their illustration skills to a surface pattern brief, allowing them to follow a design process, from initial research through to design development and realisation. The module encourages students to explore colour and shape, impact of scale, drawing techniques, digital skills and technical knowledge of printmaking techniques. Students will gain an increased understanding of design interpretation and preparation for screen and digital printing. This will include small pattern swatches, large-scale repeats and exploring composition and arrangement.
The module will be delivered through studio workshops, lessons, project supervision and directed study.
