Module Aims

To enable an in depth contextual understanding of the role of a Creative Arts Facilitator.


To develop an awareness of the importance of rigorous evaluation through qualitative, quantitative and creative evaluation methods.


To support students in establishing a professional identity in a broader community arts context.

Content Summary

This module will be delivered through a combination of work-based learning, seminars and taught lectures. The lectures will comprise:


An introduction to community settings and the systemic context in which the students will work. Health and safety, child protection, safeguarding, protection of vulnerable adults.


Professional standards and competencies. Session planning and placement documentation.


Evaluation cycle, research methods and developing evidence-based workshop practice.


Critically engaging with the evidence base to shape and inform practice.


Presentation of and critical reflection of ongoing practice in a seminar context.


Exploration of models of reflection and ongoing challenge to maintain rigour and depth of critical reflection.
