Module Aims

To encourage critical appraisal of research methods and statistics and to further develop experience of reporting on psychological research.

Content Summary

Students will further develop their understanding of research methods including correlational and factorial designs, interview and observational methods. Students will develop their ability to conduct and analyse a small scale research project; including critical reflection on the ethical and professional issues which underpin their own and other people’s work. Students will further develop their skills and understanding of statistical analysis including the ability to perform more sophisticated quantitative and qualitative methods such as correlation and one way ANOVA. Students will be required to present their findings in report format.

As statistical analysis is a work-related skill for Psychology graduates in itself, this module will make the employability aspects of research methods explicit through the inclusion of work related applications/simulations where research methods are used to justify decisions made by mock “working groups”.
