Module Aims

To enable students to integrate and synthesise an awareness of self, theory, ethical values and professional practice concerns into a coherent and distinctive professional identify

To support students in their integration of advanced Counselling Psychology skills and competencies in working relationally and pluralistically with diverse groups across diverse contexts.

Content Summary

The construction of professional identity in diverse roles and contexts.

Translating and retaining counselling psychology values in multi-professional contexts.

Developing and communicating own therapeutic approach through the integration of theory, research and practice.

Skills, attributes and characteristics of an ethical practitioner: ethical maturity and the complexities of practice.

Social Justice in counselling psychology – putting social justice into practice, barriers and challenges in the current socio-cultural-political climate.

Spirituality and religion in Counselling Psychology: engaging with the spiritual dimensions of the human experience and developing spiritually informed practice.

Reflective practice, resilience and self-care in Counselling Psychology: practitioner care and workplace wellbeing.

Developing a researcher identity, presenting and disseminating research

Practice Issues with reference to the ethical and practice guidelines (HCPC & BPS).

Ongoing professional practice and development – developing a portfolio of experience, skills and practice

This module includes mandatory formative assessment activities, to support students learning and development prior to summative assessment tasks.
