Module Aims

To enable students to develop an advanced understanding of a range of supervision models and practice strategies to meet the needs of individual supervisees and supervision groups.

To support student to develop critical and reflective knowledge on the practice, responsibilities and interpersonal dynamics of leaders and managers of colleagues and teams.

To facilitate the development of students skills in supervision, leadership and management, through critical reflection and practice.

Content Summary

Models of supervision, the tasks and functions of supervision/supervisory relationship in counselling psychology professional practice.

The critical analyse of relevant supervision research, literature, models, theories, approaches and how they apply to own therapeutic approach and practice

Explore the nature of leadership and the wide-ranging organisational factors that impact on leadership approaches.

The complexity of the leadership role, working in multicultural and diverse contexts in teams, groups, supervision and organisations.

Application of key models, theories and research in psychology to individual workplace behaviour and working with others.

The organisational policy, contextual, ethical and legal frameworks of professional practice in organisations.

Awareness of ethical and social dilemmas which can arise in supervision and teams.

Skills – developing as a supervisor and leader to work competently, ethically, developmentally, and sensitively with individuals and groups.

Critically reflect on how issues relating to power race and culture, gender, sexual orientation and disability are discussed within supervision and demonstrate an ability to work sensitively with these issues in the supervisory triad.

This module includes mandatory formative assessment activities, such as participating in supervision case discussion groups, to support students learning and development prior to summative assessment tasks.
