Module Aims

To enable graduates to utilise each six-month work experience block in a public service organisation to:

Apply appropriate academic and professional models/frameworks/theories to critically analyse the workplace; and

Undertake a critical evaluation of selected processes, procedures, projects or issues in that workplace.

Content Summary

This module relates to a distinct six-seven month period of work experience at one of the employing organisations. The work based learning modules will be introduced in the Induction to the programme and graduates will then be visited in the workplace by an academic tutor supervisor, who will engage in tripartite meetings with the graduate and their manager(s) to agree on assignment topics and provide guidance.

Guidance on the fundamental principle of ‘learn/apply, apply/learn’ and the assessment requirements of the module.

The assessment requires that a journal is kept of key issues in the work place and this is then used to inform the assessed presentation at the end of the module. The module will be assessed by the visiting tutor only.
