Module Aims

To undertake a period of supervised work experience under the direction of an Employer with support from a nominated supervisor from the appropriate award.

Content Summary

Academic Mentor Responsibilities:

To brief the student on their responsibilities before the placement commences.
To vet possible placements to ensure that the work offered is of an appropriate level and content and the company complies with the relevant legislation HASAWA 1974. The company will be required to complete the University's Health and Safety Checklist prior to the placement commencing.

To agree a programme of training/work with the employer based supervisor and student.

To use visits (at least two) to maintain the necessary training objectives.

The Employer Responsibilities:

To supply a suitably qualified supervisor for the student.

To provide induction training.
To provide instruction in Health and Safety aspects of the work.

To advise the student on any confidential aspects of the work within operational constraints.

To seek to provide the student (by discussion with the academic mentor and student) a clearly defined training/work programme.

To maintain a balance between the needs of the organisation and the training needs of the student.

This module will facilitate the development of Personal Development Planning through the delivery of the key skills identified below in the module descriptor.
