Module Aims

Provide an opportunity for students to gain knowledge and understanding of core business and management principles that are fundamental to the effective running of sports organisations. Students will be able to place a focus on a particular management function which is pertinent to their own work or interest, to enable them to gain an in depth understanding of particular business processes which they can make applicable to a sport workplace setting.

Content Summary

Theoretical and practical implications of a range of business principles including finance; marketing; human resource management, project management and evaluation.

Approaches and theories of how a business is managed effectively.

Consequences of poorly executed business processes such as financial and budget management and recruitment and selection.

The need for hard business processes to ensure consistency and clarity in the workplace

Performance management approaches and how they are used to manage under performance e.g. disciplinary procedures; appraisals.

The link between business processes and leadership e.g. recruitment and socialisation into an organisation; managing conflict etc.

How research methods can be utilised to monitor and evaluate sport processes and practices
