To provide a comprehensive grounding in research paradigms and methods, critically considering the relationship between the research context, research question, and method and knowledge development.

To develop critical appraisal skills of different forms of research and interpretation for use in advanced practice roles.

Content Summary

Development of evidence based health care. Importance of research questions. Research governance &ethical considerations in research.

Considerations of reliability, validity & rigour. Strengths & weaknesses of quantitative & qualitative research.

Common quantitative & qualitative research methods. Introduction to statistics.
Systematic reviewing including Cochrane database & meta-analyses. Literature searching & critical appraisal skills in relation to research.
