Module Aims

To effectively structure, organise and manage the creation of self-directed art practice.

To create art practice which integrates knowledge, understanding and critical awareness of historical and contemporary art practice.

To create resolved art practice that utilises and explores appropriate materials, methods and processes in relation to your ideas.

To create and exhibit a body of art practice in an appropriate context which synthesises knowledge, skill, intellectual and critical enquiry.

Content Summary

The module encourages the generation of a body of work that builds on the ideas, proposals, researches and trials engaged in previously. You are expected to undertake different forms of self-directed learning employing both convergent and divergent thinking in investigation, speculative enquiry, visualisation and making. You are expected to develop ideas, artefacts and objects through to material outcomes in association with research. You will be guided towards becoming increasingly independent in your ability to seek out help and expertise within a supported learning environment. It is expected that you will develop your own language of representation and making and that this must be harnessed to creative concerns, the process of which is evidenced in journals and other developmental processes. You are expected to plan, make and present your work in an exhibition at the end of the module. In this course emphasis is placed on the development of professional attitudes and attributes and evidencing organisational and management skills in the realisation of your creative intentions. You are expected to work safely and independently and to contribute as one of a community of artists.
