Module Aims

To evolve, structure, organise and manage a personal line of enquiry in a choice of discipline.

To evidence a thorough investigation and interrogation of both historical and contemporary sources appropriate to the development of chosen themes for future practice.

To develop an innovative and experimental line of investigation that utilises and explores materials, methods and processes appropriate to your ideas.

Content Summary

The module encourages the generation of ideas, concepts, proposals and tensions in relation to individual interests within the field. You are expected to undertake different forms of self-directed learning, employing different approaches and strategies in the teasing out of themes, interests and concerns. A sceptical and innovative attitude is required combined with intelligent planning and effective evaluation of creative outcomes, which should themselves open up new possibilities. You are expected to place particular emphasis on the process of research and process in the development of your ideas and material outcomes, potential being a key issue rather than refinement at this stage. You are expected to seek out help and expertise within a supported learning environment. It is expected that you will develop your own language of representation and making and that this process is evidenced in a body of completed work and journals. You are expected to work safely and to demonstrate that you can function independently and contribute as one of a community of artists.
