Module Aims
To structure, organise and manage a personal programme of professional practice and self-promotion including a progress file.
To develop an awareness of opportunities and support in the work place and for post graduate study with the skills and attributes required to navigate a successful path to chosen goals.
To learn advanced technical and marketing skills.
To develop confidence, initiative and imaginative approaches to media and processes, marketing and promotion.
To apply these skills and approaches to other areas of art practice.
Content Summary
The module will provide a programme of learning relevant to the workplace and post graduate study, which will include developing interpersonal skills through engaging with peers and external partners/organisations to negotiate themes, tasks, roles, and responsibilities, and developing communication skills through writing curriculum vitae, exhibition press releases, artist statements, the use of social media and the creation of professional websites.
Students will be required to engage with individuals and organisations external to the university, such as gallery owners, curators, professional artist mentors, audience members and media organisations, and to utilise professional and creative skills to negotiate, organise, market, curate and present a group exhibition. The exhibition will be in an established gallery or relevant found space or take the form of a high-quality virtual exhibition.’
Throughout the module, you will be encouraged to critically reflect on your own practical work, and you will be introduced to relevant theories and professional practices. These practices will be documented in a diary-style blog and will inform your final written evaluation..
