Module Aims
This 40 credit second year module builds upon the skills and techniques developed from the Introduction to Natural History and Media module. It has a high practical content and will involve students in deploying the techniques and media equipment discussed and demonstrated in Year 1. Overall the module will aim to allow students to become independent learners and practitioners.
Content Summary
Development of intermediate skills in DSLR for Natural History Filmmaking and Photography.
Development of intermediate skills in Natural History Filmmaking and Photography.
Use of Specialist Cameras (Remote Cameras, Infrared, Thermal). These will be deployed in a variety of settings and their use in ecological surveying will be explored in more detail.
An introduction to quantitative analysis of remote camera data.
Introduction and use of Broadcast Cameras.
Development of Podcasting for Natural History.
Drone Handling for Natural History. Students will undertake an introductory course in drone handling to encourage students to gain professional CAA accreditation when they complete the course.
Creation of 3-D visualisations using drone imagery.
An introduction to Natural History Presenting skills.
Importance of preplanning in film making
Post Production techniques
Introduction to natural history website development. Development of cartographic techniques for media production.
Introduction to the fundamentals of science communication.
