Module Aims

To extend students’ knowledge and understanding of the importance of reflective, lifelong learning and personal and professional development.

To develop students’ skills and knowledge required for an alternative educational setting and the importance of communication to meet the needs of the audience.

To further develop skills for academic success in higher education e.g. research skills.

To further develop skills in relation to Welsh Language Development.

Content Summary

University-based sessions:

Apply reflective theory to examine the principles of effective learning.

Demonstrate an awareness of national and international priorities in education.

Develop digital competence, approaches to differentiation and awareness of safeguarding.

Build on professional skills and understanding to enhance learning and development in an alternative environment.

Draw on informed and critical links between theory and practice.

Extend the use of academic skills that will support students in succeeding in higher education e.g. strengths-based learning.

Extend the use of Welsh language skills and knowledge and understanding of the wider culture of Wales.

Develop an awareness of supporting children’s language skills e.g.TEFL/ TEAL

Alternative educational-based placement:

A short induction will enable students to gain awareness of routines within the alternative educational setting, policies, resources and planning for the period of the placement, including the expectations of the portfolio assessment. It will also provide opportunities for students to undertake focused observations of learning and professional activities e.g. collaboration with educational staff and researching topics of interest.

Students will become familiar with key policies relating to national priorities within the alternative educational setting.

Students will attend an alternative educational setting e.g. museum or art gallery, where they will focus on specific educational/ theoretical aspects in collaboration with educational staff.

Students will work with small groups of learners as identified by the placement staff, supporting them to improve outcomes for learners.
