Module Aims

To explore physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of children and young people.

To examine the key concepts of well-being and health.

To explore positive mental health for both young people and practitioners.

To investigate biological and environmental determinants which affect the health of children and families

To explore additional learning needs and strategies to support behaviour management and inclusion.

Content Summary

For example:

Content will focus upon the concept of well-being and how this links to curricula.

Deconstruct the areas of health and well-being i.e. mental, physical and emotional health and examine the impact of these areas on child development.

Students will explore the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development characteristics of development.

Examine the impact of early interventions for future health and well-being.

Explore the importance of the ‘meanwhile’ and how this has an effect on future development of resilience.

Lectures will focus upon the nature and impact of factors which may affect the well-being of children and their families.

Develop a widening approach to the promotion of health and well-being with a range of strategies.

Develop an awareness of pre-natal and post-natal determinants that affect health e.g. drug abuse, depression.

Students will be signposted towards the work of theorists and identify the importance and future impact on society.
