Module Aims

To facilitate the ethical use of initial counselling skills within an integrative framework of counselling theory

To facilitate personal development through critical reflective practice

Content Summary

Skills: Active attending, listening and intentional responding. Identification of feelings, thoughts, behaviours and physical sensations. Conveying the core values. Working ethically.

Theory: Understanding a model of integration in terms of beginning, middle and end stages, focusing on the beginning stage. Understanding core values from different theoretical perspectives.

Reviewing research literature.

Personal Development: developing critical reflective practice through reflection on skills development and reflexivity
