Module Aims

Employability module

To reflect on the nature of professional practice in their discipline and identify the gaps between their work related capabilities and disciplinary expectations.

To reflect upon the way their work experiences or role has contributed to their professional practice, using this to develop future personal/professional development.

To develop and critically appraise an action plan of their experience and skills developed within the context of a graduate recruitment process and informed by their career plans and aspirations.

Content Summary

Module content will enable students to explore the principles of effective learning, demonstrating a secure awareness of national and international priorities in education e.g. cultural awareness.

Opportunities to explore the links between theory and practice will be embedded within the module e.g. analysing international educational practice.

Planned sessions will encourage students to demonstrate critical reflection and analytical skills.

Apply academic skills appropriate to various forms of communication in preparation for employment.

Sessions will continue to develop Welsh language skills and knowledge and understanding of the wider culture of Wales with links to Curriculum Cymreig.

Further develop an awareness of supporting children’s language skills e.g.TEFL/ TEAL.

With peer support, students will identify an area of innovative practice and understand success measures in order to evaluate impact.

Extend learning to evaluate a range of professional activities e.g. collaboration with educational staff and researching topics of interest pertinent to an educational setting.

Opportunities will be presented for students to interact with other professionals and adults to develop and extend leadership and management skills.

Sessions will deconstruct key policies relating to identified priorities pertinent to the placement.

Students will have the opportunity to attend an overseas placement in an educational setting, where they will focus on specific educational/ theoretical aspects in collaboration with educational staff.

Students will be expected to plan, deliver and resource sessions to motivate, challenge and support learners.
