Module Aims
Enable students’ to critically evaluate and develop their personal synthesis of aspects of humanistic, relational psychodynamic and CBT theory, research and practice.
Enable students to develop a comprehensive and critical understanding of working with more complex professional practice issues.
Facilitate the development of advanced skills in critical evaluations of research and research methods and the production of a small scale research project.
Content Summary
Theory
The synthesis of the aspects of humanistic theory, relational psychodynamic theory/psychosynthesis, and cognitive behavioural and third wave approaches, and its application to professional practice.
The development of a personal model of integration informed by theory and practice experience.
Working inter-sectionally with complex presentations via in-person face to face, online and telephone means, in specific areas such as complex trauma and PTSD, personality disorders, dreams, eating problems, domestic abuse, loss and transitions, gender and sexual relationship diversity.
Creative interventions and innovations in professional practice.
Qualitative methods in research, including design, methods and considerations of trustworthiness and rigour.
Research governance & ethical considerations in qualitative research
The ability to critique research papers with respect to counselling and psychotherapy practice.
Practice / skills
Case discussion groups reflecting on professional development and practice issues.
Preparing for private practice and further professional progression.
