Module Aims

To allow students to develop research skills to an advanced level

To give students the opportunity to conduct a piece of in-depth research on a subject area of their choice

To acquire specialist knowledge within a chosen field of study

Content Summary

On this module, students will select and research a topic that relates to their field of study, develop a reasoned argument, and produce a final written outcome that may include elements of originality.

There will be some group activity, in which students discuss their ideas, consider their research methods, and develop their focus. Students will be assigned a dissertation supervisor, with whom they will meet for scheduled tutorials and who will offer support and formative feedback in relation to students' progress on the module.

Throughout the duration of the module, students will produce formative assessment (e.g. research and planning tasks) that will assist them in the development and production of the Dissertation.

Potential ethical issues, depending on the subjects investigated and methodologies employed, will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the dissertation supervisor.
