Module Aims

To begin to develop an understanding of how learners learn within and across the Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs) of Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing and Humanities.  

To begin to develop knowledge and understanding of how to plan for authentic learning experiences with clear attention to Cynefin and contextualised Welsh language development, within the Areas of Learning and Experience of Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing and Humanities. 

To enable student teachers to plan for holistic skills development within primary education. 

To introduce the development of literacy, numeracy and digital competence skills and how these support learners’ progress within the Areas of Learning and Experience. 

To begin to contribute to the achievement of Qualified Teacher Status as set out in the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership. 

Content Summary

Knowledge of the following areas will be covered in this module, as they relate to the Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs) for Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing and Humanities: 

  • Planning for authentic learning experiences with clear attention to Cynefin and contextualised Welsh language development within the specified AoLEs in order to develop learners’ skills, knowledge and understanding and to makes links across learning. 

  • Planning opportunities to develop: 

  • Ambitious, capable learners; 

  • Enterprising, creative contributors; 

  • Ethical informed citizens; 

  • Healthy, confident individuals. 

and to do so creatively and collaboratively through and across the specific AoLEs. 

  • Consideration of how learners learn with focus on the specified AoLEs and differentiation to meet the needs of all learners. 

  • How to develop learners’ skills in literacy, numeracy and digital competence through and across the specified AoLEs. 

  • Exploration of a range of suitable resources, including digital tools, to support learning in the specified AoLEs and relating this to the development of pedagogical content knowledge. 

  • Exploration of innovative and creative ways of developing learners’ artistic skills through the planning, doing and reflecting process, - 'explore, respond, create’ - based on recent and relevant theory and research;

  • Sustainability; 

  • Outdoor learning and its impact upon wellbeing.
