Module Aims
To further develop student teachers’ knowledge and understanding of professional issues in education, including the role of stakeholders at school, local and national levels; and the four purposes and pedagogical principles underpinning the curriculum.
To extend understanding and further implement aspects of effective classroom practice and adaptive pedagogy and evaluate the impact of methods used.
To contribute to the achievement of the descriptors for Qualified teacher Status identified in the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership.
Content Summary
This module further builds on Professional and Pedagogical Studies 1; student teachers will focus on building up a critical analysis of the following areas:
Theories of classroom management, organisation and curriculum design.
Effective, evidence-based strategies to meet the needs of learners from diverse cultural, linguistic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds to ensure equity.
Extending understanding of signature pedagogies and the use of Pedagogical Principles to develop and build Pedagogical Content Knowledge.
Effective, evidence-based approaches to promoting positive behaviour for learning and their impact on learning and teaching.
The role of well-being in effective learning, including the ability to identify learners who are at risk of experiencing poor well-being, including examining the most effective models deployed by schools and their partners to improve the well-being of all learners.
Supporting student teachers to manage their workload by exploring evidence-informed strategies to support wellbeing and resilience.
The enactment of safeguarding and Prevent obligations and their implications for self-evaluation.
An extended range of effective, evidence-based questioning techniques and applying these in practice.
An extended range of effective, evidence-based approaches to enable learners to become active participants in their own learning.
The impact of setting high expectations of all learners.
A range of effective, evidence-based approaches to using digital technologies to facilitate the achievement of the Four Purposes of the curriculum.
How to use a range of effective, evidence-based strategies for assessment of and for learning systematically and critically to refine teaching and to inform planning for further progress.
