Module Aims

To refine and use practical understanding to excite and inspire learners through cross-curricular approaches and authentic learning experiences. 

To further develop students’ understanding of the twelve pedagogical principles to include a deeper understanding of the social and psychological factors that influence learning and how to address these. 

To address the challenges associated with curriculum design and meeting the needs of all learners. 

To encourage innovation and imagination through synthesis of skills and knowledge in a range of creative learning activities. 

To contribute to the achievement of the descriptors for Qualified Teacher Status as set out in the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership. 

Content Summary

This module builds on Subject Studies 2b by focusing on a more critically reflective and evaluative understanding of the Areas of Learning and Experience of Expressive Arts, Health and Wellbeing and Humanities, to include: 

  • understanding of curriculum design within the areas of learning and experience of Health and Wellbeing. Humanities, and Expressive Arts and how the local environment can be used to support authentic learning opportunities with clear attention to the development of the Welsh Dimension.

  • Designing authentic learning experiences which are underpinned by the twelve pedagogical principles. 

  • The role of AoLE leaders and how these support the cross-curricular approach, including an exploration of the barriers and limitations in this approach. 

  • A deeper understanding of the social and psychological factors that influence learning. 

  • Cynefin in the curriculum and how this can be embedded through a cross curricular approach. A range of practical, evidence-informed activities to make connections across all AoLEs. 

  • The systematic use of data to evaluate impact and effectiveness of learning experiences and to inform future planning. 

  • Emerging good practice in promoting creativity; studying a range of issues related to creativity including learning, teaching and assessment and continuous improvement. 

  • The use of school data to inform action inquiry, considering the way that teachers use reflective evaluation to develop their classroom practice and impact on improvement in the wider school.   

  • Relevant national, regional and school data, as well as research and inspection evidence to inform policies, practices, expectations, targets and teaching methods. 

  • The impact of resources designed for a specific outcome, using reflective evaluation to make links between theory, practice and impact.
