Module Aims
This module will enable students to develop an understanding of the business environment (externally and internally) and its analysis with particular reference to economic and legal factors and business frameworks used for environmental analysis.
Content Summary
Indicative module content:
- Understanding the business environment – tools and techniques:
- External (PEST, 5 Forces Analysis)
- Internal (Value Chain, Resources, Ansoff’s Matrix, BCG Matrix).
- Summary – SWOT analysis.
- Offer, acceptance, intention to create legal contracts, consideration
- Classic case law, e.g The case of Carlill v Carbolic Smoke Ball Company from 1892. , The case of Adams v Lindsell 1818 \\\"postal rule\\\"
- Law and regulation of the natural environment and sustainability issues (in UK and Europe)
- Demand conditions (What customers want and why it matters).
- Revenue, elasticity and pricing.
- Supply conditions (growth and investment).
- Supply and demand analysis.
- Competition and Game Theory
Examples will be used to contextualise discussions for cohorts studying Pathways and Specialist courses.
