Module Aims

To develop content creation skills in one or more of journalism/professional communications/media production

To enhance students’ employability via awareness of the media and creative industries work market, and development CVs/showreels/profiles,

To enhance students' awareness of the business context of the media industries, including concepts of entrepreneurship and the requirements for operating as a freelancer in the creative industries.

Content Summary

Project/ Work Placements: As part of the module students would be required to form part of a team to professionally produce a project' for an outside agency or to find and undertake a 2-week work placement (or a series of smaller one-or-two day placements) in the media.

Industry Trends, Issues, Business & Economics: A series of seminars where students would be required to follow, discuss and analyze the latest trends and issues in the media. Students will also be encouraged to consider new economic strategies.

The Commissioning System: Seminars and guest lecturers examining the commissioning systems in all media. Pitching and Development: Workshop sessions to concentrate on the development and pitching of media ideas.

CV workshops: Seminar and workshop further developing both paper and electronic CV's, contact cards, portfolios and show-reels for the media.

Networking: Workshops and practical exercises on the art of networking in the media.

Events: Students would be expected to attend any events during the module. These may include visits to media centres or involvement in other media events.
