Module Aims

This module follows on from the first year and builds upon students' established knowledge with greater detail. It will also reflect on student's experience of legal and regulatory matters during their year two journalistic practice. Like the first year module, it will primarily deal with Welsh and English law but will also address anomalies in Scottish and Northern Irish law.

Content Summary

Media Law, Ethics and Regulations, including (but not limited to): contempt of court, advanced court reporting, defamation, freedom of information, challenging the courts, copyright, confidentiality & privacy, the data protection act, election law, official secrets, the effect of the Human Rights Act and the particular challenges of media law in the online environment. The students will also learn how to apply these areas in real-life scenarios.
