Module Aims

  • To develop knowledge of a range of private law and public law rules relating to the operation of public administration.
  • To provide for an understanding and analysis of these rules.
  • To develop an evaluation of the private law and public law rules encountered.

Content Summary

The syllabus comprises the following;

  • The constituent elements of private law (torts) their nature, principles, applicability and extent in the sphere of public administration.
  • Critical examination of the intrinsic and external factors that apply and shape rules of liability as they apply to public administration.
  • The constituent elements of public law systems and remedies for redress such as judicial review and ombudsman and their applicability and operation in the sphere of public administration.
  • Critical examination of the intrinsic and external factors that apply and shape public law processes of accountability and dispute resolution
