Module Aims

Aims of the module:
1. To provide students with the opportunity to present findings in a variety of media and formats
2. To develop students’ specialist knowledge within an agreed area of study

Content Summary

Synopsis of module content:

In addition to taught modules, students may take one module involving independent study in a subject/topic area of their own choice, and produce a project (in medium and format agreed with the staff member in question).

This is supported by a maximum of 1½ hours of timetabled academic staff time per student per term - to provide initial direction, guidance and monitoring, and final drafting.

Subjects/topics may relate to, or be independent of, existing taught modules and their area of study, but must have prior agreement in writing with the module leader and an appropriate member of staff who will act as supervisor.

The aim of the independent study module is to allow students to determine part of their own curriculum; to give scope for initiative in modes of learning and methods of assessment; to develop investigative and research skills in the field of language, literary studies, issues and texts, and to develop a piece of work appropriately critical at this level.
