Module Aims

Centre for Academic Success supports and compliments subject discipline from an academic context to enable and empower undergraduate business students.

The module introduces core competencies necessary for successful transition into Higher Education by equipping students with the fundamental academic, technical and personal skills needed for successful progression.

Content Summary

This is a practical module designed to equip students with the academic skills needed to be successful in their higher education studies, and also to promote professional development and future employability by focussing on the transferability of these skills into business.


The module content covers personal study skills, IT skills and business skills, with practical applications of these to workplace scenarios to enhance future employability.

Indicative content includes the following interrelated areas:


Business and study skills:
o Business report writing
o Academic writing and referencing
o Presentation skills
o Research skills
o Effective group/team working
o Time management, planning and prioritising workloads


Professional development and employability:
o CV’s
o Developing a social media presence
o Self analysis and reflection to construct Personal Development Plans


ICT skills:
o Word-processing (eg to present assessments, essays, business reports, tables)
o Use of spreadsheets to analyse and present data (eg pivot tables, frequency distributions, graphs)
o Use of PowerPoint for presentations
o Researching and accessing online resources
o Electronic calendars and diaries
Wellbeing, mindfulness and mental health
