Module Aims
1.To introduce the principles of flat pattern drafting
2.To introduce the principles of pattern cutting for male and female
3.To develop an understanding of adapting basic patterns into contemporary and historical
Content Summary
This module introduces the process of pattern cutting basic block patterns for the male and female form.
Working in groups, students will be expected to familiarise themselves with the measurements sheets required within costume, measure each other and log measurements ready to begin pattern cutting.
The module facilitates individual and group activities that encompass: research, experimentation, self-directed learning, and reflection on their working practice.
Students will be introduced to the pattern drafting process through a series of introductory workshops demonstrations. They will then be expected to experiment with the formula given, drafting patterns to a variety of male and female sizes.
Following on from this students will then learn how to adapt these basic blocks into any given period-contemporary through to historical. This will take place through workshops, group work and directed study. Building the student’s confidence in their pattern cutting and pattern adapting skills.
This module contains a six-week immersive learning element.
