Module Aims

To provide the student with knowledge and understanding to assess and create therapeutic opportunities for service users across a range of care settings and client groups

Content Summary

The content of this module will be applied across all four fields of practice. The module will explore the following themes:

Processes and techniques of person-centred assessment to include mental, physical, cognitive, behavioural, spiritual cultural, language and developmental influences on assessment process across a range of settings.

Communication and interpersonal skills in assessment process and the development of therapeutic relationships across all client groups.

Introduction to the evidence base underpinning assessment and therapeutics across a range of client groups

Introduction to evidenced based assessment tools/frameworks across a range of care settings and client groups

Assessment tools applied to a range of service users and lay the foundation upon which to base therapeutic interventions.

Introduction to pharmacological: pharmacokinetics & dynamics, medicine management applied to fields of nursing:
• Talking therapies
• Reminiscence therapies
• Cognitive behavioural therapies
• Play therapy

Introduction to non-pharmacological principles and interventions applied to fields of nursing.

The principles of evaluating assessment and therapeutic interventions

Legal frameworks underpinning assessment including mental capacity Act and the Mental Health (Wales) Measure.
