Module Aims

To enable the student to develop informed decision-making strategies that can be applied into the health and social care setting

Content Summary

The content of this module will be applied across all four fields of nursing. The module will explore the following themes:

Being assertive and developing professional courage.

Accountability and decision-making

Decision-making principles

Selecting the evidence base to inform decision-making processes

Processes of diagnostic reasoning

Developing confidence, self-analysis regarding decision making strategies

Ethical approaches to decision-making

Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion

Mental capacity and capability in decision-making

Person and family centred decision-making

Working effectively with peers and the multi-professional team, mechanisms for evaluation of team decision making processes

Development and application of communication and relationship management skills as identified in Annex A of the NMC (2018) Proficiencies

Development of nursing procedural skills as identified in Annex B of the NMC (2018) proficiencies.

Understanding the requirements of the development of proficiency in accordance with Part 2 of the PAD:

Medicines management, safe administration of medicines applied to all fields of practice
