Module Aims

To enable the student to critically evaluate the pathophysiology that informs the therapeutic interventions to meet the complex needs of a range of clients across all fields of nursing.

Content Summary

The content of this module will be applied across all four fields of nursing. The module will explore the following themes:
Advanced pathophysiology across the age range and client groups through the fields of nursing to inform complex care and management processes.

Comprehensive assessment skills encompassing biopsychosocial aspects of person and family centred care including spirituality, language sensitivity and cultural needs.

Caring for individuals with complex conditions across a range of settings within the primary, secondary, private and community sectors.

Strategies for setting priorities in meeting the complex needs of clients, families and carers

Advanced pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics in preparation for prescribing and application to all fields of practice.

Polypharmacy and its effects on clients.

Biopsychosocial bases for illness and behaviour.

Communication strategies utilised in complex and urgent situations across client groups and settings.

The role of the nurse in multi-professional care and management processes.

Understanding the role of the nurse and other healthcare professionals when managing and prioritising actions and care in the event of a major incident.
