Module Aims

To enable the student to critically evaluate service provision across health and social care settings to lead quality improvements in practice.

Content Summary

The content of this module will be applied across all four fields of nursing. The module will explore the following themes:
Clinical Governance, the duty of quality and definitions of quality care across the fields of practice.

The role of the nurse managing care in a variety of settings.

The impact of policy changes on the delivery and co-ordination of care, political drivers, the impact of local and national policies on organisational change.

Improving health outcomes across client groups and health and social care settings.

Transitional care across all fields of practice.

Teamwork & performance management.

Safe staffing and resource management, the political context for funding, process for business case development, political awareness

Shared decision making and accountability.

Transforming practice and service re-design.

The impact of leaders and managers. Theories of leadership and management in the related to quality, safety and service improvement and change management

Principles of project management.

Organisational enablers and barriers to service improvement.

Using patient experience/patient stories to enhance quality.

The service user voice, engaging Service users / carer participation in evaluating care.

Nurse as a change agent.

Quality assurance methods applied to fields of nursing practice.

Quality improvement methodology

Risk assessment / management processes.

Evidence based practice to influence quality of care.

Service improvement and innovation.
