Module Aims

To enable students to critically evaluate and analyse the relationship between education, leadership and management theory and how this influences quality care across the health and social care sector.

Content Summary

The content of this module will be applied across all fields of practice. The module will explore the following themes:

Teamwork & performance management

The nurse in health economies, resource allocation, principles of safe staffing, resource management, the political context of funding, process for business case development, political awareness.

The impact of policy changes on the delivery and coordination of care

Influencing policy development in political contexts

The nurse as a key agent in change across health and social care settings

The nurse as educator in the context of person-centred care and the development of others

Application of learning and teaching strategies across a range of settings

Ensuring diversity, equality and inclusion in facilitating learning of service users, families/carers/peers and other professionals

Developing the skills to be a Practice Supervisor.

Outline of the NMC Standards for student supervision and assessment.

Clinical governance, the duty of quality and implications for effective nursing care, placing this is the context of multi-professional care

Recognising and reporting adverse clinical incidents and reflecting on lessons learned

Critical evaluation of theories of leadership in relation to effective team working and service improvement

Quality improvement methodology and its application across health and social care settings

PDSA cycle in the context of change management methodology

The role of the registered nurse and other healthcare professionals when managing and prioritising care in major incidents
