Module Aims

• To provide practical teaching experience that develops the professional skills, knowledge and values required of an effective practitioner within the PcET sector.
• To value and promote diversity, equality of opportunity and inclusion in all aspects of professional practice.
• To develop understanding of practice theory links to support effective learning, teaching and assessment strategies.
• To develop an ethos of reflection, lifelong learning and professional development as a teacher in the PcET sector
• To develop resilience, confidence and effective practice in managing challenges and critical incidents.

Content Summary

This module is at the heart of professional development as a teacher in the post-compulsory sector and comprises key elements of teaching practice experience to support development as a reflexive and professional practitioner.
Indicative content:
• professional knowledge, values and skills expected of practitioners in the post-compulsory sector
• the role of the tutor and developing professional relationships
• classroom management and safeguarding
• issues of inclusion, equality, diversity and strategies to support learning differences including ALN
• cross cutting themes eg Welsh language and culture, LLN and digital literacy
• developing use of learning technology
• practical experience through observation of other practitioners and own teaching practice
• critical reflection: participants are required to reflect and maintain records to document their personal and professional development, achievements and ongoing targets
• self-evaluation: critical analysis of own practice and setting targets for own development
• developing resilience and confidence in managing challenges and critical incidents professionally
• critical engagement with relevant literature, learning theory and evidence-based research to support and inform own personal and professional development.
• developing own reflective and academic writing suitable for level 6.
