• Introduce the basic psychological and sociological perspectives applied to social work.

• Explore the nature and validity of different life course theories/explanations relevant to effective social work practice.

• Introduce the quantitative and qualitative methods applied in social sciences and social work research.

Content Summary

• Introduce students to the social sciences in social work
• Psychological and Sociological understanding of working with individuals, communities and groups.
• Life course theories will be explored and applied to Social Work practice.
• Students will be introduced to research methods applied in social science.
• Application will be made to the Welsh context.
