• Further, integrate theory and practice in the understanding and implementation of assessment in the service of individuals, carers and families.
• Develop critical reflection skills through self-evaluation to an increased insight into the importance of individual accountability and requirement to justify actions and judgements.

Content Summary

This module is concerned with critical reflection on skills and applying knowledge from other modules to the development of a rounded social work identity. It builds on the Foundations of Reflective and Applied Practice module in Year 1, and develops a specific focus on the areas of assessment, service provision and the application of knowledge, skills and values in Social Work practice. This links directly with the 80 day PLO and into the other 3 academic modules delivered in the 2nd year.
Through the supervised PLO and the academic content of the taught module the student will

• Gain the knowledge, skills and understanding to engage with the processes of assessment and service provision.
• Develop the integration of contextual, analytical, explanatory and practical understanding in a range of social work situations
• Engage with the expected level of practice and knowledge in an integrated way.
• Build on and incorporate the understanding and use of individual communication skills gained in Year 1.
• Extend understanding of the nature, theory and practice of social work intervention with individuals and groups, and focus on a range of more challenging communication skills.
• Build on their understanding and engagement in critically reflective and reflexive practice both within the academic and practice-based elements.
• Develop, through the use of supervision and support mechanisms, learning from experience, and giving and receiving feedback
• Develop through study and practice, skills of analysis of inequality and discrimination and applied values.
• Develop skills in assessing and responding to issues and dilemmas in practice.
