Module Aims

To introduce the roles and relationships that underpin the live music industry; to develop an awareness of the legal obligations planning and managing a live music event; to develop an understanding a workable and professional tour schedule that meets the detailed requirements of all parties.

Content Summary

Provides a vehicle for the examination of major challenges facing the event/festivals sector and its managers, including for example, government involvement in events and the concept of sustainable event development.

The student will also be introduced to the ways in which live music tours are planned, budgeted and undertaken. The key elements of tour planning will be examined, including the economic and marketing information that informs the decision-making of artists and agents in the mapping of tour routes. The importance of designing a coherent and balanced budget will be highlighted through methods such as case studies of individual artists and the compiling of a tour book.
