Module Aims
To enable students to develop a thorough knowledge and critical understanding of a range of evidence-based therapeutic interventions and helping approaches to work effectively with people living with dementia and their carers. The module will equip students when working with people living with dementia when faced with complexity and change to provide safe and effective care.
Content Summary
This module will equip the student in advancing their knowledge, skills and therapeutic interventions relevant to their work with people living with dementia and their carers.
The module will include the following:
• Biopsychosocial factors (including cultural and spiritual sensitivities) when working collaboratively with people living with dementia and their carers
• Approaches to evidence-based dementia assessment and care with a focus on promoting recovery within a biopsychosocial framework (including the assessment of risk)
• Evidence based pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for dementia
• Evidence based Assistive Technologies employed in dementia care
• Communication skills to promote effective therapeutic interventions for people living with dementia and their carers
• Promoting wellbeing throughout all stages of the condition (from diagnosis to end of life)
This module will enhance skills in relation to the assessment and management of people living with dementia and their carers through simulation and critical reflection on practice
