Module Aims
Resistance training is a key aspect of a strength and conditioning coach’s work. This module is designed provide the student with a range of skills knowledge and competence in the planning and coaching of resistance training to enable them to utilise this training in their strength and conditioning practice.
Content Summary
The module will focus on the theoretical basis of resistance training but at its core will be the effective delivery of resistance training to a range of athletes. Starting with a background to the development of resistance training, it will then focus on the theoretical basis underpinning resistance training along with an analysis of the different types of resistance training. This will progress to examine the acute variables that can be manipulated in resistance training design and their impact upon adaptation. This will then progress to look at longer term variable manipulations and how these can be incorporated into a periodised plan of training.
Practical instruction in the exercises that address the key movement patterns in sport will be at the heart of the module, along with methods of progression. Emphasis will be on the key techniques to be utilised in the effective performance of each exercise along with effective coaching methods in developing an appropriate technical model.
