Module Aims
To introduce students to the theory and practice of movement screening, sports injury prevention and recovery modalities
To develop practical competency in basic first aid, and prevention and/or management of soft tissue injury.
Content Summary
In this module students will study: -
Basic life support
Basic tissue healing principles
First aid interventions including RICE/ POLICE and the current recommendations governing use
Principles and models of injury prevention
Principles and approaches to screening including Functional Movement Screening
The theory and application of soft tissue techniques including passive stretch, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, muscle energy techniques, myofascial release, soft tissue release and sports massage
The theory and application of thermal modalities including ice and heat application
The theory and application of sports taping techniques
All assessment components must be passed by the student.
Students must attend more than 80% of the module to complete the practical assessment
