Document Version Information

Version 1
Valid From 16 Mar 2020
Valid To 31 Aug 2026

Module Aims

To enable the student to gain skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the Visual Effects and Motion Graphics industry, by undertaking a period of supervised work experience, or a combination of placement and ‘live’ project.
To enable the student to critically reflect on the learning achieved during the placement/’live’ project

Content Summary

This module provides an opportunity to undertake a work placement relevant to the Visual Effects and Motion Graphics subject area.
In recognition of the difficulty in securing work placements in creative subjects, it is possible to fulfil the learning outcomes by undertaking either:
• a ‘live’ project, or
• a work placement (up to 48 hours) and a ‘live’ project.
The work placement may take the form of an unpaid secondment, current part time or full-time employment, or previous employment.
In all cases, the placement must be relevant to the Visual Effects and Motion Graphics subject area and it can be undertaken in a block or more flexibly as necessary.
Where the student is undertaking a combined work placement and ‘live’ project, the student, tutor and an industry professional, will negotiate a brief to be undertaken within the usual place of study.
Students will demonstrate competence in the key skills acquired and learning outcomes achieved during the work placement/‘live’ project in a Personal Reflective Diary (PRD) and reflective report on the company profile, the roles and responsibilities of staff within that company and the work placement role undertaken. As such this module will include a guide on the expectations of the diary and report, including how to approach and undertake self-reflective writing.
