Module Aims

• Prepare Students in the application of social work theories and models for working with individuals, families, carers and groups when managing complexity.
• Demonstrate the legal, social, economic and ecological context of social work practice.
• Understand approaches to overcome discrimination, oppression and inequality.

Content Summary

This module extends the work of the earlier module Outcome Focussed Practice in Social Work.

• Legislation and policy context of social work practice in Wales and module will critically discuss and analyse appropriate theories and models.
• Complex problem definition, assessment, planning, intervention will be addressed using models of social work aimed at achieving independence, co-production, choice and empowerment.
• The application of research in informing practice when responding to complex situations.
• Risk and risk management
• Disability,
• Safeguarding and vulnerability, and working with others.
• Diversity and difference is addressed recognising the Welsh perspective and the social needs of the region.
• Intervention and different theoretical perspectives.
• Students will continue to build on their communication skills with service users and carers.
• Knowledge and skills of inter-professional working.
