Module Aims

To enable students to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of a range of evidence-based therapeutic interventions pertinent to their respective field of practice.

Content Summary

The content of this module will be applied across all four fields of practice. The module will explore the following themes: 

To explore  the biopsychosocial (BPS) factors, including cultural, spiritual and language sensitivities when working collaboratively with people in need of care and their families 

Critically evaluate approaches to evidence-based assessment and care with a focus on promoting recovery within a biopsychosocial framework 

Explore the assessment and management of risk in the context of fields of practice 

Evidence based assessments informing the use of therapeutic interventions to meet the complex needs of people. Levels of acuity and managing patients in situations of crisis 

Explore opportunities around solution focused therapies, reminiscence, talking, play, distraction therapies. Together with diversion strategies and positive behaviour support and management 

Evaluate evidence based pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions related to fields of practice 

Evidence based non-pharmacological interventions related to fields of practice in the provision of person centred care 

Consider and explore the pathophysiology across the lifespan, including palliation and end of life care. 

Explore effective communication skills to promote effective therapeutic interventions. 

Consideration of the legal and ethical frameworks within which the student nurse will practice (especially in relation to assessment and helping approaches).
