Module Aims
To enable the student to critically review the concepts of health promotion, protection and illness prevention and to promote health and wellbeing across the lifespan
Content Summary
The content of this module will be applied across all fields of practice. The module will explore the following themes:
Holistic health and wellbeing across the lifespan covering all fields of practice
Local, national & international perspectives on health and wellbeing. The concept of prudent healthcare
Global patterns of health and well being outcomes
The dynamic nature of health, the experience and ownership of health of service users, families/carers, health literacy, values, attitudes and beliefs about health
Defining, identifying and measuring health needs across the age continuum, wellbeing & ill-health
Factors informing strategy/policy, for example, the impact of childhood experiences
Epidemiology, demography and genomics
Determinants of health and inequalities encompassing societal and community/locality profiles
Models of health promotion concepts of motivation and empowerment related to field of practice. Motivational interviewing techniques
Legislative frameworks and implications for public health and health promotion.
Prioritising, implementing and evaluating health promotion interventions including genomics, reasonable adjustments and strength-based approaches
Focus on aspects on aspects of the role of the nurse ‘making every contact count’, linking with the multi- professional team and other agencies to meet the health needs of individual clients and groups.
Concepts of vulnerability, safeguarding and protection in the contexts of health and well being across the age continuum and fields of nursing
