Module Aims

To enable the student to develop an in-depth and critical understanding of processes of assessment and diagnostics, the management of therapeutic interventions utilising the evidence base to provide effective person centred care

Content Summary

The content of this module will be applied across all fields of practice. The module will explore the following themes:
Professionalism, being a member of the multi-professional team to facilitate individualised, effective person-centred care

Assessment and evaluation of evidence across fields of practice. Self-ownership of research to inform own development. Developing an evidence based and informed approach

Critical analyses of evidence that informs assessment processes and therapeutic interventions

A range of assessment processes to assess a continuum of need, from essential to complex, across the age continuum and across fields of practice. The significance of Interpersonal and communication skills underpinning assessment processes

The pathophysiology underpinning assessment and diagnostics of physical need across the age continuum

The assessment of psychosocial, emotional, cultural and spiritual and language needs of service users and their families/carers

Diagnostics and problems solving processes to evaluate care

Strategies to employ and manage therapeutic interventions in meeting the needs of a range of client groups

Non-pharmacological interventions to meet a range of service user need

• Cognitive behavioural therapies
• Play therapy
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics in the context of fields of practice

Polypharmacy and its effect on service users

Evaluative mechanisms and involving service users as partners and co-producers of person centred care
